Saddle
are seats for the rider
Stirrup
are supports for the rider's feet that hang down on either side of the saddle
Girth
a piece of equipment used to keep the saddle in place on a horse, passes under the barrel of the equine, usually attached to the saddle on both sides by two or three leather straps
Crupper
a piece of tack used on horses to keep a saddle, harness or other equipment from sliding forward.
Halter
consists of a noseband and headstall that buckles around the horse's head and allows the horse to be led or tied

Lead Rope
it may be short (from six to ten feet, two to three meters) for everyday leading and tying, or much longer (up to 25 feet (7.6 m), eight meters) for tasks such as for leading packhorses or for picketing a horse out to graze, has no bit
Bridle
a cavesson style noseband, the reins are buckled to one another, like a halter, has a bit
Hackamore
a headgear that utilizes a heavy noseband of some sort, rather than a bit, most often used to train young horses or to go easy on an older horse's mouth
Double Bridle
a type of English bridle that use two bits in the mouth at once, a snaffle and a curb, the two bits allow the rider to have very precise control of the horse, only very advanced horses and riders should use double bridles
Longeing Cavesson
a piece of equipment used when longeing a horse, consists of a heavy, padded noseband, metal rings to attach the longe line, a throatlatch, and sometimes additional straps such as a jowl strap or a browband for added stability
Reins
consist of leather straps or rope attached to the outer ends of a bit and extend to the rider's or driver's hands
Bit
a device placed in a horse's mouth, kept on a horse's head by means of a headstall
Harness
a set of devices and straps that attaches a horse to a cart, carriage, sledge or any other load
Standing Martingale
has a single strap which is attached to the girth, passes between the horse's front legs and is fixed to the back of the noseband, to prevent it from catching on other objects, it also has a neck strap
Running Martingale
consists of a strap which is attached to the girth and passes between the horse's front legs before dividing into two pieces, at the end of each of these straps is a small metal ring through which the reins pass
Hunting or Stockman's Breastplate
most common type, consists of a yoke (with a neck and wither strap),a breast strap at the bottom of the yoke which runs through the horse's front legs and attaches to the girth, and two straps at the top of the yoke which attach to the D-rings of a saddle
Breastcollar
consists of a chest strap, which buckles to one billet of the saddle, runs around the horse's chest, and attaches to the first billet on the other side, also has a wither strap
Breastgirth
made of strong elastic, and runs from either the D-rings of the saddle, or is attached to a loop that runs around the saddle's stirrup bars, similar to the breastcollar, there is no wither strap
Spur
a metal tool designed to be worn in pairs on the heels of riding boots for the purpose of directing a horse to move forward or laterally while riding
Crop
a short type of whip without a lash, used in horse riding, part of the family of tools known as horse whips
Horseshoe
a fabricated product, normally made of metal, although sometimes made partially or wholly of modern synthetic materials, designed to protect a horse's hoof from wear and tear
Brushing or Splint Boots
are used to protect a horse's legs during exercise, protecting the lower leg from injury that may occur if one leg or hoof strikes the opposite leg
Polo Wraps
are bandage materials, usually made of fleece, for a horse's legs
Bell or Overreach Boots
a type of protective boot worn by a horse, they encircle the horse's ankle, and protect the back of the pastern and the heels of the animal
Curry Comb
tool made of rubber or plastic with short "teeth" on one side, helps loosen dirt, hair, and other detritus, plus stimulate the skin to produce natural oils
Dandy Brush
stiff-bristled brush is used to remove the dirt, hair and other material stirred up by the curry
Soft Brush
soft-bristled brush removes finer particles and dust, adds a shine to the coat and is soothing to the horse
Hoof Pick
hooked tool, usually of metal, used to clean the hooves of a horse
