Offenses such as following closely, speeding, failing to signal, lack of courtesy for other drivers.

blood alcohol content (BAC)
Measure of the amount of alcohol in a person's bloodstream
broken white line
Indicates a passable lane.
carpool lane
Reserved for vehicles with a minimum of two people (including the driver).
central vision
Enables driver to focus straight ahead allowing us to drive, read, and see details sharply.
chevron
Directional arrows to indicate deviation ahead.
collision
Act of colliding; a coming violently into contact; crash.
controlled intersection
Intersections with traffic control signs or signals.
crosswalk
Lane marked off for pedestrians to use when crossing a street, as at an intersection.
defensive driving
Skills used to defend yourself from bad drivers, drunk drivers, poor weather, unsafe road conditions.
double parking
Illegally parking parallel to a vehicle that is legally parked in a parking space or on the street.
driveway
Road, esp. a private one, leading from a street or other thoroughfare to a building, house, garage.
driving under influence (DUI)
Driver who operates a vehicle while intoxicated.
driving while impaired (DWI)
Operating a vehicle while one's blood alcohol content is above the legal limit set by statute.
entrance
Point or place of entering; freeway on ramp.
freeway
Express highway with no intersections.
gauges
Interior mechanisms of a car that display important information about the vehicle's condition.
hand-over-hand steering
Steering method in which you put your hand over your hand while making a turn, as opposed to the push-pull steering method.
hazard lights
Indicator light on a vehicle that flashes to warn that it is unexpectedly slowing down or not moving.
highway
Main road, esp. one between towns or cities.
highway hypnosis
Trance-like state of drowsiness that can occur with little warning.
hydroplaning
Bald or warn tires cannot handle build up of water.
implied consent
Law stating that by driving a vehicle you agree to submit to chemical testing, BAC.
insurance
Contract between driver and insurance company with certain policies in place regarding premiums/loss.
intersection
Place where two or more roads meet, esp. when at least one is a major highway; junction.
jaywalking
Crossing a street outside of a designated crosswalk.
learners permit
Enables practice driving with another adult driver prior to taking the driving test.
liable
Legally responsible: you are liable for the damage caused by your action.
line of sight
Visible path of travel from your vehicle to the travel destination.
manual transmission
Automotive transmission in which the driver shifts gears manually.
maximum speed limit
Posted recommended maximum speed limit on a roadway based on ideal driving conditions.
merge
To blend with like travelling traffic.
minimum speed limit
Posted recommended minimum speed limit, travelling slower than posted may be unsafe.
national highway traffic safety admin.
Oversees critical behavioral and vehicle studies, distributes data for safety research.
operating under the influence (OUI)
Operating any motorized machinery after consuming alcohol or other drugs.
operating while intoxicated (OWI)
If vehicle is stopped and not running driver can be charged with operating while intoxicated.
push-pull steering
Steering method in which pull the wheel and do not remove your hands from the wheel, as opposed to the hand-over-hand steering method.
